The city of Brighton, Michigan is a suburb of Metro Detroit located in the southeastern portion of Livingston County. The Brighton area incorporates the surrounding townships of Genoa, Brighton, and Green Oak. It forms part of the South Lyon-Howell-Brighton-Hartland urban area with the City of Brighton’s population of approximately 7,649.
Located only 19 miles from Ann Arbor, Brighton is centered amidst other major destinations, including Detroit and Lansing. The area is conveniently located along the I-96 and U.S. 23 interchange, allowing for an easy commute to other common employment areas, including Farmington Hills, Southfield, and Plymouth.
Brighton and the surrounding area are known for their recreation opportunities, with over 50,000 acres of parks, 123 miles of trails, 184 lakes, and 20 golf courses. Brighton is ideal for outdoor winter activities. It is home to Mt. Brighton Ski Resort, offering 25 trails and slopes for skiing and snowboarding. Huron Meadows Metropark is one of few parks in Michigan offering skate-style and classically groomed trails for cross-country skiing. For year-round recreation, the Legacy Center Sports Complex in Green Oak Township is the Midwest’s destination for world-class facilities and professional-grade athletic training.
The Brighton community offers the best of all worlds. The historic downtown offers destination dining, upscale shopping, and a farmers’ market. It frequently welcomes entertainment and festivals throughout the year. Visitors can also enjoy the half-mile nature boardwalk along downtown’s Mill Pond or the 10,000 square foot wooden playscape, “Imagination Station,” for children.
